Company Overview

Company : Ludo Empire

Ludo Empire is one of India's most popular real-money board games, with over 100 million players enjoying its gameplay across multiple modes. Built around a mix of strategy and skill, it gives everyone from casual players to competitive gamers a reason to keep coming back, and keeping that experience fast and reliable at this scale is no small task.

Industry : Real-Money Gaming

Services : Route 53, CloudFront, Internet Gateway, NAT Gateway, Network Load Balancer, Application Load Balancer, ECS, Fargate, S3, ElastiCache, MongoDB Atlas, Elastic Container Registry, CloudWatch, AWS Config, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Systems Manager

The Challenge

Ludo Empire's original system ran as a monolithic application on a single EC2 instance, a setup that became a real limitation as the platform's user base grew past 100 million players. The architecture lacked flexibility, made scaling individual components difficult, and increased the risk of system-wide failures as demand climbed.

Strong marketing drove rapid user growth in a short window, and the resulting traffic surges overwhelmed infrastructure that simply wasn't built to flex. The single EC2 instance couldn't absorb spikes gracefully, leading to performance degradation and real risk of disruption right when engagement was highest.

Because components couldn't scale independently, the platform ran into frequent bottlenecks under heavy traffic, threatening the user experience in a category where even small inefficiencies can send players elsewhere. Scaling the monolith meant scaling the whole system rather than the parts actually under pressure, wasting resources and slowing down the platform's ability to adapt.

Managing and updating the monolithic application grew more complex over time, with downtime becoming an unavoidable part of releases. Without a proper CI/CD pipeline, updates were slow and disruptive, at direct odds with the always-on expectations of real-money gaming. And running a single large EC2 instance to support it all led to inefficient resource use and rising costs, adding financial pressure on top of the technical strain.

The Solution

CloudZenia rebuilt Ludo Empire's backend around independent, scalable services, giving the platform room to grow without the fragility of a single point of failure.

Event-Driven Microservices

Cheaper than two EC2 instances.

The Impact

Ludo Empire's infrastructure now matches the scale of its player base instead of straining against it.

Moving to microservices and container orchestration let the platform scale dynamically and absorb sudden traffic surges without missing a beat, while independent scaling of components eliminated the bottlenecks that used to threaten performance during peak play. Infrastructure costs dropped significantly, with the new microservices setup costing less than maintaining two large EC2 instances, and the CI/CD pipeline now supports continuous updates without disrupting the gaming experience for a single player.

Security improved right alongside performance, with access control and secrets management now safeguarding user data and financial transactions across the platform. AWS Organizations and SSO simplified handling production and proof-of-concept projects side by side, and comprehensive logging and monitoring give the team real-time insight into system health, so issues get caught and resolved quickly instead of turning into player-facing problems.
